The Nokia Theatre in Times Square is an indoor theatre owned and managed by AEG LIVE, located on 1515 Broadway, at the corner of Broadway and 44th street. It was designed by architect David Rockwell and opened in September 2005. At the time of its construction, it replaced a historic theatre called Astor Plaza, which closed in August 2004. The estimated total cost of the transformation was $21 million. The theatre has a large standing room orchestra section, combined with a large area of seating towards the rear of the auditorium. The Nokia Theatre is not the first of its kind; Nokia and AEG LIVE also collaborated on creating the Nokia Theatre Los Angeles which is part of L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California, the Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie located in Texas, and Club Nokia, also located in Los Angeles, California.
